⌘Prepare your studio / Installation

One skill.
Your way to create.

Editing and visual scenes together. A portable skill for Codex and Claude Code, running on your computer.

01

Open the project folder

Download the repository and open a terminal in the folder containing install.py. Ask your AI to read skills/editonny/SKILL.md and its setup reference for the package's current requirements.
02

Register the skill

The installer shares one package between both agents. To use just one, replace both with codex or claude. Restart your agent afterward so it discovers the skill.
python3 install.py --target both
03

Check before editing

Complete setup prepares local tools, the renderer, browser, default transcription model, local OCR for caption checks, and bundled media. Verify them with diagnostics and a synthetic sample; report anything pending before editing.
python3 ~/.local/share/editonny/scripts/editonny.py doctor
04

Make your first request

Use $editonny in Codex or /editonny in Claude Code. Ask for a sample before the complete project.

Installation starts with a request too.

Install or update the editonny skill for Codex and Claude Code from https://github.com/soumatheusgomes/editonny. Clone the latest version into a temporary folder; I won't download anything myself. Read skills/editonny/SKILL.md and follow its complete setup procedure. If editonny is already installed, compare versions, summarize what changes, and update it through its existing delivery method: the repository installer for a shared installation (it preserves my settings and backs up the previous copy) or the host's updater for a managed plugin. Prepare the compatible local tools, locked engine, pinned renderer and browser, default transcription model, local OCR for caption checks, and bundled media before the first edit. Verify with diagnostics and a synthetic sample, report anything pending, remove the temporary clone, and tell me when to restart my agent. Ask before paid services or sending my media.

The installer registers one copy at ~/.local/share/editonny, with links at ~/.agents/skills/editonny for Codex and ~/.claude/skills/editonny for Claude Code. Choose one installation method.
Run python3 install.py --target codex or python3 install.py --target claude, then start a new conversation. Registration is local: it does not sync tools or files with cloud sessions or your phone.
The skill checks GitHub on each use and asks before applying updates. After acceptance, run the installer from the new checkout and repeat complete setup checks. The previous version moves to ~/.local/share/editonny-backups/ and installation .env files are preserved. Managed plugins use their host's updater. An unavailable update check does not block a working local installation. Keep footage and projects outside the skill folder, and check the update before deleting any backup.
Run python3 install.py --target both --uninstall. Add --dry-run to see the destinations first. Only the agent links are removed; the shared package, settings, backups, videos, and projects stay.
Run claude --plugin-dir "/path/to/editonny" to load this checkout for one session, then invoke /editonny:editonny. The standalone skill uses /editonny; avoid loading both at once. Video tools and the Python environment are still required.
This guide builds requests and browses examples and scenes. It does not upload or edit footage in the browser. Your agent may require a subscription. Optional external generators may charge fees; the default request asks for your authorization before using them or sending media.
Listen for clipped words, check caption accuracy, and see whether framing keeps the subject. Ask for changes before finishing everything.
